In 2007 French Football Federation announced the competition, what would be the name of the new trophy. Over 9000 proposals were sent in and the winning term was Hexagoal. The trophy was designed and created by artist Pablo Reinoso. The Hexagoal replaced the previous trophy, that had awarded to champions for only five years.
